right so with what looks likely to be the last gig we attend in 2008, gigsoc and co. are off to the new “the O2″ tonight (formerly The Point Depot) to catch the Kings of Leon (please refrain from calling them KOL – it’s very fucking annoying!).

I saw an interview on RTE’s The View on Tuesday night with Harry Crosbie, Bono and The Edge talking about the old venue and it’s new reincarnation. I must say it looks like an impressive venue. It will get it’s first big test tonight.  Last time these guys played in town they literally brought the roof down on the RDS.

No strangers to these shores of late, Kings of Leon are riding high in the charts at the moment with their huge hit Sex on Fire (tis being played to death on radio at the moment) and they also have one of the biggest selling albums of the year. While their sound is definitely migrating more and more towards the big arena crowd pleasers these guys still have a mightly impressive back catalogue that will hopefully make for an excellent night.

Given the time of year  it’s also likely that gigsoc and co. will use this gig as an excuse to kick off the Christmas festivities a little early so don’t be surprised if you bump into squinty on Grafton St. at 3 in the morning singing Fans out of tune while digging into Zaytoon’s finest!
